Automobile Insurance Coverage in Alabama

Automobile Insurance Coverage in Alabama

Hello, its Bernard Nomberg with Nomberg
Law Firm. Wanted spend a few minutes talking with you about automobile
insurance coverages in Alabama and why they’re so important and what the
current state laws require since 2013 when the Alabama laws were changed and
updated it has been mandatory for drivers who own vehicles that operate on
our roads in Alabama to have liability insurance coverage and what that means
in order for a person to be in compliance with the law is that they
must have liability insurance to pay for any damages or injuries that they may
cause to another car or person in an accident and there are some minimums
that are set by state law and they are as follows
you must have $25,000 in coverage for bodily injury or death per person
$50,000 total for bodily injury or death per accident and $25,000 for property
damage and those are the state requirement minimums amount now that I
don’t know about maximums but each insurance company that sells these types
of coverages can discuss with you what those maximum may be in depending on the
person’s socioeconomic status and how much money they make in assets they own
will determine what coverage limits that they should inquire about however you do
need to be aware that liability insurance will not cover damages to your
car or your personal injuries in an accident however most Alabama car
insurance carriers offer optional types of coverage to help with these costs and
I’ll go over a couple of those when you’re shopping for car insurance
consider these optional coverages collision coverage will help
pay for accidents related to damages to your own vehicle comprehensive coverage
this’ll help pay for damages to your car that are out of your control such as
those caused by inclement weather medical and funeral cost or policy this
helps to cover medical bills or funeral costs after an accident and then
probably the most important one that I want to stress today that most folks
don’t know about or really don’t pay much attention to is uninsured and
underinsured coverage and this helps to protect the insured when they’re in an
accident that’s caused by another person who either does not have automobile
coverage or their coverage that they have is not enough coverage for the
damages that you have sustained and maybe that you’re asserting in your
claim there’s a lot of things to talk about when it comes to underinsured and
uninsured that can save for another day but when you’re shopping for insurances
please make sure that you add that as one of your coverages additionally if
your car is being leased or financed summer contracts may require that you
have collision and comprehensive coverage. If you have questions about
