The cost of cars is the second largest expense
most of us have in our lives after wherever we live as a renter or a homeowner, and do
you know that the cars we have sit unloved or unused 96% of the time? That’s right, our
cars, we’re paying for them 100% of the time but we’re only using them 4% of the time.
And so BMW thinks they have a better idea. Instead of selling you a car — rent it to
you by the minute. They’re doing this now in the San Francisco bay area and if it works
well there, they are intending to bring it to nine more cities in the United States over
the next year or so. With the idea that you will not have to own a car, just as you need
it, on demand, you get it near where you live, you drop it near where you’re going to shop
or work. When it’s time for you to go back home you just get another one and take it
back home. The overall cost of doing this – much, much cheaper than having your own
car sitting there doing nothing 96% of the time.
