FEMA’s Mobile Emergency Response Support Vehicle

FEMA’s Mobile Emergency Response Support Vehicle

My name is Robert Pesapane,
I’m the division supervisor
for Sonoma County. We’re responding to the
California fire event. Currently we have FEMA staff
deployed here in Sonoma County in support of California Office
of Emergency Services. We have this MERS asset
here in support of our field
operation. Currently we have teams
conducting preliminary damage
assessments in the field. The MERS asset here allows us
to connect back to our incident
management assistance team. back at Cal OES state
operations center, and provide critical information
and situational updates
in real time. Santa Rosa area here, is
part of the Tubbs Fire. Right now I think we’re tracking
the joint preliminary damage
assessment with Cal OES. It’s a great asset it provides
both internet, and wireline
and radio communications,
if we need it. Currently the fire situation
here has had an impact on cell
and internet access. Some of the cell towers were damaged
and this MERS asset provides us
the critical communication tools that we need to
communicate effectively with
our response and
recovery operation.
