How To Move a GO Device to Another Vehicle | Fleet Optimization

Occasionally the need arises to take a GO
device from one vehicle and move it to another Keeping appropriate inventory, knowing the
location of your GO devices, and keeping pertinent information tied to the correct assets is
a critical component of using Geotab effectively Please note that the following process is
not recommended for vehicles that use the GO device for hours of service and IFTA reporting To disassociate a GO device from a vehicle,
navigate to Vehicles from the main menu Search for the vehicle in question by name, VIN or
serial number and and select the vehicle to edit First, record the serial number of the device
in question, as this is required to associate the device with a new vehicle Often, users
will select the “Remove” button, but this will delete the vehicle and all of its data
from the database entirely and is not recommended Instead, click on the More Details button
at the top of the page, then select Unplug Device By selecting the Unplug Device button,
the vehicle will now become historic and its location history will be saved in the database
Before confirming, highlight the serial number, right click, and then copy Select “Unplug
Device” If you are planning on moving this GO device
to an existing vehicle in your database, search for that vehicle and select More Details,
then click Replace with new Device Right click and paste the serial number that was previously
copied and click OK If you are planning on moving the GO device
to a vehicle that is not already in your database, from the Vehicles page, click Add, then Add
Vehicle Enter in the copied serial number and a description, and click OK For more details,
watch our How to Add Vehicles video This process can also be automated through
Automatic Vehicle Management For more information on this feature, take a look at our video,
