Maggie’s Picks – “The Last Bus to Wisdom” by Ivan Doig

are you looking for a book that’s gentle
and warm-hearted with memorable characters and a touch of nostalgia I’m
Maggie from Kent District Library and do I have the book for you it’s The Last Bus to Wisdom by Ivan Doig it’s a sweet story of and eleven year old Donnie Cameron who in 1951 climbs aboard a Greyhound bus and sets off for Wisconsin to spend his
summer vacation with his formidable great aunt things don’t go well at all
and soon Donnie finds himself back on the bus heading to Montana and life in
an orphanage but guess who snuck onto the bus with him? His hen-pecked uncle
Herman and oh boy do they have a summer of marvelous adventures. The book reminds me of Bill Bryson’s The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid or even a more
contemporary version of Huckleberry Finn for more great ideas visit kdl.org and happy reading
