My Cars Aren’t For Sale! | r/ChoosingBeggars | #044

Hey everyone, Rob from Karma Comment Chameleon
coming at you with another Choosing Beggars story. My cars aren’t for sale! Let’s jump right in. A little background: I live on 3 acres just
outside of a town famous for it’s university. My road, though a typical country road, is
a cut through to the dump, a private school nearby, and one on my road. It’s not busy but can have steady traffic. I also may have several cars: my daily driver
2013 Impreza, an 86 Mazda B2000 pickup, and my project 88 Integra. Additionally there’s my wife’s Elantra and
our housemate’s Infiniti FX35. Anyway, here I am on my riding mower, mowing
my yard, and minding my own business when a stranger pulls up in my driveway. At first I ignore it as I assume my wife is
just selling some of her watercolor art, but as I loop back I get waved over. Annoyed to be broken away from my reverie,
I lazily ride my mower over. Enter Choosing Beggar. “You sure have a lot of cars here”
“Yeaaaah” with half a chuckle “That little blue car is really interesting”
points to Integra “What is it?” “Oh, It’s an 88 Acura Integra. I got it from some friends who were the original
owners!” Admittedly, I really like it when people compliment
my cars. “How much?” Me, thinking he meant miles: “About 280,000”
“No, how much for it?” “It’s not for sale”
Now this has happened before and most people leave dejectedly. Not Choosing Beggar. “What do you mean? My son and I drive past it everyday on the
way to school and it rarely moves. He’s about to turn 16 and really wants it
and I told him I’d get it for him! One person doesn’t need this many cars!” “Well, they aren’t all mine” The Infiniti
belongs to my friend who is living with us temporarily and the Hyundai is my wife’s. I usually drive the Subaru, but the truck
is our hauler and back up when one is in the shop or family is borrowing the Subaru. My Integra is my project while I save money
to put it on the road.” “If you can’t afford it, you don’t need it.” “No, I just don’t have money at the moment
for insurance on 3 cars and I’m waiting until the fall so all 3 don’t need to be inspected
and registered at the same time. For now, I’m just fixing it up. My brother-in-law and I might even rebuild
the motor for kicks.” “Look, I’ll give you $500 cash right now.” “Even if it was for sale, $500 is ridiculous. It’s not worth much, but the first generation
Integra is pretty rare, especially the 5 door. But I love that car, it’s not going anywhere.” “Fine, $1,000! But only because it’s my son’s birthday and
his first car.” “Sorry, not for sale. I get that he wants it. I loved my 93 Accord which was my first car,
but maybe you can find him a Civic or Corolla to be cheap, reliable transportation.” “NO, HE WANTS THIS CAR AND I PROMISED IT TO
HIM!!!” “I’m sorry I’m not selling it. I love this car”
“But you don’t even need it! He does! Are you trying to make me into a liar to my
son?!” “No, but you can’t expect to pull into someone’s
driveway and buy a car that shows no signs of being for sale. You even admitted you’ve seen it moved by
saying rarely moves. Now, I need to finish mowing.” “It’s not fair! My son’s 16th birthday is ruined thanks to
you!” “If that’s what you want to think…” Choosing Beggar then guns it on my gravel
semicircle driveway, nearly hitting the back of the very car he just tried to buy off me. I’ve got to admit, I don’t think I would have
kept my cool as well as OP did in this story. Well done! This is Rob from Karma Comment Chameleon saying
