Rodolfo, Bus Mechanic

Rodolfo, Bus Mechanic

My name is Rodolfo Navarro. I’m in the maintenance
department. I’m a bus mechanic and I’ve been with CTA for nine months. What I’ve
gained here while working at the CTA is getting a lot more experience with different systems
cause buses are really unique in the way they work, how the electrical system is set up,
communications. It’s something that I’m not that familiar with that I’ve come across
with so I’ve learned a lot more on communications and bus functionality with how they’re set
up. The right person would be the right candidate
for this position would be someone with mechanical experience, that you enjoy working with your
hands, you get satisfaction from getting something done the right way the first time.
The benefits that I value here a lot at the CTA would be mainly healthcare. It’s really
important to me to know that I can take care of myself and my family, take care of, you
know, our health. So having that is a really big help. Having a pension, I mean a lot of
jobs don’t really have a pension system. So having that security there, knowing after
you put in your years of service is good to know. You know, makes it comfortable. One
last thing that I really like, we get provided tools here. As I came from the automotive
field so anyone that’s been there knows that any place you go to you have to have
your own tools, you have to supply your own tools. And good tools are expensive, so having
that supplied here is also something I really like that helps a lot.
