This Nissan is Better Than a Toyota

This Nissan is Better Than a Toyota

rev up your engines today I’m gonna talk
about the last Nissan that I would ever buy this is a 1999 Nissan Maxima and
truly it’s one of the last good cars that Nissan ever made thousand or so
Renault started taking over Nissan and the quality has dropped
ever since but this off 99 it’s still trucking on down the road and how is it
still going well we’ll check out of the hood you can see why it has a venerable
Nissan 3000 twin campus v6 engine these things are bulletproof engines and even
back in the day here timing chain on this baby it doesn’t have one of those
horrible rubber timing belts at break when Nissan started cheeping out making engines that had rubber timing belts that was a big mistake many of my
customers had them the belts broke the engines are ruined they said I’ll never
buy another Nissan again but a lot of horsepower but they’re very dependable
yes they are interference engines but when you have a
timing chain it doesn’t matter the chains last so long if this would have had
a rubber timing belt and the belt breaks the Pistons hit the valves boom goodbye
engine that’s why so many people hated Nissan a long time they like the speed
they like the way they drove but when a little $30.00 rubber timing belt broke
and they found out it just destroyed their engine they weren’t happy with
Nissan anymore well this 99 metal timing chain you can see this thing is the 1999
still got the original timing chain on still got the original transmission
these things were solid built and if you want to talk about sports sedans does
have four doors it really was one of the first highly successful well-built
sports sedan now this is just a base model it’s got the cloth seats in it but
look they’re still in immaculate shape from 1999 turn the key it starts right
up no fooling around the AC still blows coldest convey the
power window still work the power door locks still work after all these years
and the transmission still shifts like a dream this was before that we’re making
those horrid jatco transmissions that were cheaply write these things had
solid reliable transmissions now in its day 1999 this thing was respectable
it had 200 horsepower and he had a top speed of 144 miles an hour that’s plenty
fast enough and for the speed that it had high it was okay gas much this
particular one gets about 20 in town and about 25 on a highway
yeah even today this 99 doesn’t look bad it’s still a relatively stylish vehicle
now back in 1999 Nissan hit the nail on a head with that style and function it’s
a quick little sedan as you can see inside pretty comfy plenty of room in a
back seat for the family and a pretty big trunk for storing stuff go it’s
pretty far back nice and spacious look at this one
it’s still clean inside for a 99 shock to me and as it was set up to be a
sports sedan tight steering it corners quite well but at the same time it’s got
a nice smooth ride fast once before everybody got into that low-profile
Racing type tire crapped on a lot of modern cars everywhere
yeah they handle really well but they also don’t ride all that well I’ve been
in BMW that man did it corner but you get on a bumpy road with those low
profile tires they don’t ride all that smooth you could get in a car like this
drive from Texas to California and comfort you’re not gonna get kinked up
they’re smooth they ride nice I got plenty enough horsepower I mean who
needs to go more than 144 miles an hour it’s a really good combination of
handling suspension and ride suspension and just like the really all Datsuns
nissan used to be called Datsun that these things can last virtually forever
if you take care of them only this Maxima is nothing like saying
ol Datsun b210 that had a tiny 4-cylinder engine that could barely get out of its own way with an automatic transmission sure might go to
three for two thousand miles but you weren’t riding the luxury like in one
of these Maximus now they’ve been making Maxima since 1982 and they’re still
making them now they say that they’re gonna phase out the maximas I believe
it’s in 2023 it was their target now but that’s because they’ve made them worse
this 99 was probably the pinnacle of the cars they ever made
she’s in 2007 they only offered the CVT jaco transmissions enough that were
horrible transformations that would break down you put a powerful engine
with one of those CVT transmissions of new technology they started to have
problems they weren’t bulletproof like this old 99 that’s still tootling down
the road today I wouldn’t buy a Nissan these old ones they were from another
time when they still had all kinds of quality they were all still made in
Japan this is 99 check it out it’s still got Japanese writing on it you got your
money’s worth for this car back in the day this particular one sold for $20,000 when it was new and if you could buy a new
car today for $20,000 that was still running as
good as this thing is 21 years later I’d certainly say you got your money’s worth
and don’t think this thing’s had a ton of work done on most of the stuff is
still original they are condition of the engine the transmission the power
steering recently it had struts put on it because hey after 21 years these
things are just gonna wear out it could have still been driven it just bounced a
bit I cheated what it bounced and so new struts were put on consider all the other
parts that are still original on it all right they used to make these things
in Japan rectally yes it has a plastic aluminum radiator but it’s still the
original one after all these years even the plastic was better made in those
days check the top of the engine even though this is an old car it still got
plastic intake but was made thick made with the correct
type of gaskets they’ve never been changed it still runs perfectly fine
I’ve seen the modern Nissan’s some of their plastic intake manifolds they’re
made cheaper thinner I seen them stock to leak when they were
five or six years old and yeah this is a base model but the wheels still look
pretty good that is a plastic wheel cover but it looks like it a lighter one
until you get really close even the modern Toyota’s the really low end ones
that don’t have a lot of wheels but have wheel covers this plastic wheel covers
don’t last like they used to I have customers they’ll buy a cheap Corolla or
something that just has wheel covers on steel wheels and not alloy and I was
wheel covers the plastic will crack when they’re four or five years old these
babies are 21 years old and they still look good so now you know the truth why
Scotty would buy a Nissan but it would be something like this 99 maximum when
they were making them right and here’s some bonus questions and answers for you 17 says Scotty you help me a lot my question is how often would you
recommend an on routine maintenance like engine flush injector cleaning coolant
flush just some things to make it last longer 2017 ford fusion titanium with
80,000 miles I made videos on this you never need to flush the engine in oil in
you’re trying to dirts and suspension changed the oil it gets out you only use
a flush if you got a crapper that wasn’t taken care of
you bought it used or somebody was bad they didn’t change the oil and off
there’s crud build-up you use the flush once to get the crud out injector
cleaning you got a normal car you really don’t need to clean the injectors
gasoline is a very good cleaner you get an old one or you’re bought bad gas you
live in an area where there’s crappy gas in other countries you might want to
clean it every once in a while but here in the United States not really and
coolant flushes yeah that you just go by whatever kind of coolant you have if
it’s a 5 year 100,000 do it every five years a hundred thousand miles if it’s a
Toyota seven-year 175,000 do it once every seven years 175,000 miles that you
do but you only need to do it once every so many years there’s no big deal
with the coolant G 564 says I got a 2012 Ford f-150 v8 5 liter automatic
and my ABS line I had a scanner it’s says C1440 pressure
transducer main primary signal fail good you got the cold anybody you get an ABS
problem you got to get scanned for codes it’s very complex system
forget guessing on what’s wrong with the system like that but your says pressure
transducer main primary signal fail that is all inside the main ABS module every
time I fixed a Ford that had that code they had ABS module they do go bad on
those and yours let’s see it’s eight years old that’s generally when they start
breaking down if you don’t care about ABS brakes and it stops okay but you’ve
lost the ABS capability lots of guys drive them yours that way but if you
want the ABS system to work correctly odds are you’re gonna ruin it need a new
ABS module which then of course has to be programmed and bled to work on your
vehicle it’s a relatively expensive process so price it and see if it’s
something you want to do or not, so if you never want to miss another one of my
new car repair videos, remember to ring that bell
