This Toyota Hasn’t Had an Oil Change for 100,000 Miles

rev up your engines today I’m gonna talk
and show you when you decide how far you want to go fixing a car depending on
what you’re planning on using the car for what kind of shape it’s in what’s
really left in it now this is an old one Camrys got like 180,000 miles so
professionally it looks to be in really good shape it’s shiny everything but
let’s look closely looks nice but if you look closely
well the door handle is broken you just put a ring to open but it does work he’s
torn apart all the door stuff and gotten a used switch so the windows and
the locks work he doesn’t really care what it looks like then the interior
store decent shape the cloth seats they’re comfortable everything still
pretty much works radio and everything in it but it is old and look what happens when I push on the suspension system I just keep bouncing bounces like mad in
the back and also bounces like mad in the front just total slop now in a
perfect world that means that it needs all new struts but if you want to put
front and rear struts on this thing you’re gonna spend a lot of money if you
put decent stuff on and mechanics are gonna be well over eight hundred bucks to put
decent struts on all four wheels so in cases this vehicle you got to decide how
much money you want to put in it and how are you driving it you’re
driving this in town in the city I’ve had people drive them decades that
way they’re not jumping in this car and Houston Texas and driving to LA no that
would be a mistake it’s not safe on the highway speeds it’s bouncing you’re
losing control what for a Knockaround City car it’s perfectly fine and if
you’re thinking like some people will and just bolt the cheaper quick struts
on well one they’re not all that much cheaper and to get all last as long so
you’re putting on keeping this thing for another decade or something don’t put
those cheap quick struts on cuz within a year or two they’ll wear out and they
never ride all that right anyway so my advice on this thing is either live with
it bouncing around are put on quality struts don’t just put cheap ones and think they’re gonna last they won’t and now we’ll check under the hood to see what other things are wrong as you can see
it’s leaking oil like mad from the valve cover gasket but this is a v6
engine there’s three cylinders here and then there’s three under here to change
the back cylinders we’re talking about taking the intake over that’s a big job
it’s only pouring out of the front once what just changed his front ones and see
what happened and he noticed he said it a clock when he went reverse and try
again that’s a relatively simple thing this dog-bone mount here you can see the
rubbers all rotten and so it clunks back and forth when you move the car from
park to drive now that’s no big deal so we’re gonna
change that what he also said it felt kind of squirrely so we’re gonna jack up
the front end and check some more of the suspension now we know the struts are
worn out well we’re gonna check out four other
weird things like ball joints tie rods you know we can check for excessive play, nothing outrageous just a little bit there that’s normal where ya realize
this thing does have a hundred and eighty something times miles on things
you’re gonna be warm but that’s not anything excessive is gonna be dangerous not what you’re this like I said it’s got a little bit of play but nothing
outrageous the inner tie rods are a little bit worn but i see that all the
time on his Camrys the inner tie rod has a sleeve that’s got a plastic piece in
it the plastic wears a little and you get a little bit of play but the metals still
there so it’s not dangerous and rather there’s been a ton of money
doing that this thing siphon off the way it is so we’re gonna change this
dog-bone mounts no there are pretty tight so we’re gonna use a long
extension bar in a socket to break it loose there’s one there’s another one
here don’t we catch one off my hand and get this one out of the way since
there’s no real tension on this one that’s sitting you slide it right up and as you
can see it’s broken that comes right out of there there’s the no one then it just slips in and we bolt the top one in cuz it’s easier then comes the fun of lining up
the bottom one I got a pry bar because you often have
to move the motor a little so we push it a little we can line this hole up and
bolt it up then once you start it you got a socket cuz you can’t do this with
your fingers it’s pretty tight now it’s starting to come out the other side
we’re almost on you want a nice and tight no more broken dog bone mount
that’s gonna help a lot of the problems because that holds the whole engine and
transmission and it’ll make it much more stable so we’ll take off the stupid
cover annoying plastic nonsense but that’s how they make cars these days
with a bunch of crap on them the spark plug coil ignition coils and
get the radiator hose out of the way cause it’s blocking stuff don’t we check
all the valves all the bolts are loose them all and pull them out get a hammer and tap it now the whole thing will come off off it comes, and as you can see it’s
leaking all over this car is that the engine oil change long enough it should
have been changed more that’s why there’s all this crud inside they’re
gonna wipe all the residual oil that’s off on the top of it man so the seals
lighter as you can see here the spark plug seals are bad too so we get a
hammer and we pop the old seals out to put new seals in because they’re all
shot to good just hammer back in you try out the old gasket it’s gonna be just as
hard to get up because it’s all baked on from all these years but I’ve actually
you’ll find a hole you can get it open you see how brittle it is just comes off
in pieces supposed to be flexible then in goes the new valve cover gasket
it’s custom made to fit in everything perfectly first you just kind of
generally feel a little it along pushing it into the little holes to make sure
it’s right because there is a left and right there different sizes dan you
gotta push your man super tight so they snap into a hole and stay in place
this particular one is a silicone base gasket which is best they last the
longest and as you can see here it’s all neatly fit you push your finger the
whole way around it’s pushed into the hole tightly there’s no sealer or gasket
maker needed just the silicone gasket then you push it snugly on don’t forget
any of them there’s a whole bunch of them and then first make them all stop
start in the middle and work your way out start the middle and you work your
way around to get them snug and we’ll do this one I’m gonna do one
it’s a crisscross man now watch out them snug they get your ratchet and make them all tight again from the middle working out here finally the last one over here
so we put everything else on get those pliers and slide the clamp back on
then we’ll put the ignition coils back on this one goes here make sure they’re on
time and a radiator hose back in this place a little oh yeah get that clamp on
nice and tight and add some coolant cuz I notice nothing came out when I took it
off so it’s low on coolant is low, then you put the stupid beauty cover back on doesn’t do anything but whatever then we’ll close the hood and take it for a spin and we use the funky little ring that he has to open the door yeah and
it doesn’t drive all that bad it rides like one of those vans in a
Porky Pig cartoon where every time you hit a bump the whole thing just goes up
and down I mean if you don’t mind that you can drive this car for many
years to come so if you don’t mind riding around in a post-apocalypse car
it doesn’t have a rear view mirror anymore hey this thing might last for
many years to come as long as you’re not a fanatic Tamiya
on the truth about this all 2000 camry what you should do with it all car and
what you should and here’s some bonus questions and answers not everyone
laughs at those segways and people were at around it turns out the second guy
who bought the company from the first guy ended up driving over a cliff and
Scotland I believe and kill themself i one but now segway’s gonna have a motorcycle they go zero to 60 in 2.9
seconds and that’s a top speed of 125 miles along cry from the Segway that you
people rode around and have tours of city that don’t go on it fast now
you wonder how they can make something like that from there simple little
technology well that’s because a Chinese company
now owns them it’s called nine BOTS and then I call kinds of
electric stuff in China also working on other things you have a
thing called the Segway s pod which is a chair that you sit in yes a chair but
it’s share that can go twenty four point eight miles an hour so if you want to
find out what it’s like to be in a chair and something happens to be thrown out
of a chair twenty four point eight miles an hour it’s actually quite fast it
might not sound like much but one time the police came over here and I did a
little video on the importance of seatbelts and they had the sled thing
and that thing was going like four miles an hour you slid down and then it
stopped and when it stopped then four miles an hour man they’re really jolted
you when you went forwards 25 miles an hour almost it’s extremely fast to be
going in a chair that you might fly up but they actually have one it’s called
the Segway s pod but on a positive side they say that this chair will go 45
miles between charges so it’s halfway to what the Mini Cooper that is the
Electrify diversion can go so you can get reasonable distance you know I guess you have to stay on the sidewalk right it’s a chair it’s not a car so actually so in
the United States and see people in my neighborhood riding around in chairs I
mean I wouldn’t put it behind modern people, so if you never want to miss
another one of my new car repair videos remember to ring that Bell
