Want to sell your car? Here’s how!

Want to sell your car? Here’s what you need to do. First, download a copy of the vehicle transfer
form from the VicRoads website, or pick one up from VicRoads to guide you through your
sale. Next, let’s get organised. Find your vehicle’s registration renewal,
or you can show the buyer the car within your myVicRoads account so they know it’s yours. If you have finance on the car, make sure
it’s paid off. If you’ve got custom plates and you want
to keep them, you will need to visit a customer service centre to get new plates. And you’ll need to get a roadworthy certificate
before the sale. A roadworthy certificate is valid for 30 days. Now you’re ready to sell the vehicle. Ask the buyer to show you some ID and write
a receipt for each of you. Before handing over the keys, complete and
sign the transfer form with the buyer, and keep a copy for yourself. Check that all the information is correct,
otherwise, the transfer won’t be processed when the buyer lodges it and the vehicle will
stay in your name. Now you can hand over the keys.
